Growing Places operates an indoor, 20-tower, aeroponic Tower Farm in the basement of its Leominster office building, where we grow herbs and greens for use in our produce distribution and processing programs.

Aeroponic growing, like hydroponic growing, does not use soil. Plant root systems are suspended in the air and the towers “rain” nutrient-amended water on them from above, using significantly fewer resources than hydroponic tanks or traditional in-ground growing. Our farm is entirely volunteer-run and in need of adult volunteers to assist with operations start to finish.

WHAT: harvesting, disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling 4-5 towers on a weekly basis

WHO: volunteers able to perform physical tasks, such as scrubbing, lifting up to 15 pounds or using a stepstool, and who enjoy a calm working environment

WHEN: Tuesdays, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (or earlier if weekly tasks are complete)
