Who We Are

Growing Places is a grassroots nonprofit that works to address issues of food insecurity and poor nutrition in North Central MA. Working through a food justice lens, GP has focused its efforts in communities at increased risk for food insecurity and in need of opportunities promoting nutrition and wellbeing.

What We Do

Growing Places seeks to create long-term, sustainable changes in our community focused on increasing equitable food access and environmental sustainability. We do this through a number of programs addressing the equitable functioning of the local food system, food access, nutrition education, and environmental sustainability.

Our programs include:

Production

  • Community garden support
  • Growing Places' aeroponic Tower Farm
  • Growing Places' and Monty Tech's shared Freight Farm
  • Support of local school Tower Gardens and Farms

Aggregation & Distribution

  • Home-delivered Produce Program (SNAP/HIP eligible)
  • Fresh Box Produce Donation Program 
  • Farmers Markets in Leominster and Fitchburg
  • Mobile Markets throughout NCMA

Environmental Sustainability

  • Greening the Gateway Cities, to increase tree coverage in low tree canopy areas in Leominster and Fitchburg in collaboration with the DCR

With additional efforts addressing community nutrition, food waste, and food systems building.
