The YMCA of Central MA, Montachusett Community Branch is an association united in a common goal to strengthen our communities and to develop the spirit, mind and body of all persons, regardless of means, through activities guided by and based upon our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The Fitchburg YMCA was founded in 1887 by a group of community leaders who recognized the importance of the worldwide YMCA movement. In 1954 the building at 55 Wallace Avenue opened with an indoor Olympic sized pool, gym, program rooms, locker rooms and offices. In 1957 the Y acquired its 28 acre summer camp in nearby Lancaster.
