LUK Inc. is a community-based nonprofit agency dedicated to improving the safety, health, and emotional well-being of youth, families, and adults. LUK has a long history of providing high quality services to vulnerable youth and families throughout Central Massachusetts. Each year LUK delivers crisis care, social service and behavioral health care to over 2,500 children and adults: keeping children safe through foster and residential care, strengthening families through counseling and mentorship, and offering youth a pathway to a healthy future through life skills training. LUK also reaches over 10,000 community members through our positive youth development activities, community organizing around youth substance abuse and prevention, responses to trauma, autism spectrum services, and street outreach. LUK was established on a belief that all people have inherent worth and every community is empowered to make changes to ensure the well-being of its members. LUK has a long standing reputation of being client-cenetered, working with community members ?where they are at? with qualified, caring and compassionate professionals. Each individual is met with qualified staff that provide personalized services to help people with their presenting problems and meet immediate needs. Our organizational culture and services are designed to be flexible, creative, and responsive. Through innovative prevention programs, tailored therapeutic interventions, residential programs, and our inclusive support and counseling services, LUK offers multiple levels of support for members of our communities. LUK is a not-for-profit social service agency located in central Massachusetts dedicated to improving the lives of youth and their families. LUK's mission is to challenge and support youth, families & adults to recognize and fulfill their unique and productive potential through community-based prevention, intervention and education services. LUK was founded in 1970 as the Let Us Know Crisis Center, Inc., by a pair of Vista volunteers Punky Pletan-Cross from North Dakota and Ric Whalen from Connecticut. As the forerunner to AmeriCorps, VISTA volunteers gave a year of service to meet community needs. Punky and Ric were assigned to Fitchburg in the north central area of Massachusetts where they founded 24/7 hotline ?staffed? entirely by volunteers. Although LUK no longer operates a hotline, a commitment to community is still core to our services and organizational values. Since our founding in 1970 we have expanded our services and our geographic coverage. LUK has social service offices in Fitchburg, Lowell, Worcester, and Webster. Our range of residential, social, and health services includes the following: home-based youth and family counseling services, victim services, outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment, trauma recovery treatment and training, foster care, transition to independent living for older youth, young parent support, adventure-based counseling, respite services, group homes for youth, coordination of child welfare services, mentoring, street outreach, peer leadership, and positive youth development services utilizing evidence-based models.
