Who We Are

“The name, Gateway Park was inspired by the State’s Gateway City Parks Program. This Park is a gateway to many of Fitchburg’s most important natural, cultural and economic assets: a gateway to a clean and beautiful Nashua River; a gateway to more than 2,000 acres of protected open space in northern Fitchburg; a gateway to the redevelopment of historic mills; and a gateway to the economic revitalization of Fitchburg.” -Dave Outman, a Fitchburg Greenway Committee Member from The Trustees of Reservations

	Gateway Park Community Garden is Fitchburg’s first and only public community garden open to all Fitchburg residents. Created in 2012, the garden serves as an open area for local residents to grow their own vegetables and flowers, and for visitors to enjoy. Whether it’s an extension of your backyard, or you have no backyard at all, Gateway Park Community Garden is a place for individuals and families to grow their own food, come together as a community, and enjoy the outdoors in one of Fitchburg’s newest parks. Garden plots are available to Fitchburg residents. Currently there is no gardener’s fee. Gardeners are responsible for the care and maintenance of their own garden plots, and must procure their own plantings and supplies. Orphaned plots may be reassigned, and ambitious gardeners may expand to more plots by notifying the garden organizer. The City of Fitchburg is generously providing water (for garden use ONLY). The community garden and the park in which it is located were created by the combined efforts of many public, private, state and municipal partners, chiefly the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs, the City of Fitchburg, The Trustees of Reservations, and architects Brown, Richardson & Rowe.
