Volunteer: Parent Support Group Facilitator-Leominster

Parents in Leominster need your help!

We need a volunteer (you!) to act as a group facilitator for a parent support group in Leominstera. As a facilitator, you will be maintaining the safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment which characterizes our support groups.

 

Requirements:

Must demonstrate an understanding of stressors within a family that could potentially trigger child abuse and/or neglect Have previous experience working with parents and families

Commitment:

14 hours of training held in our main office in Watertown, MA 1 year commitment meeting with groups weekly for 1.5 hours (day/time is flexible

 

Our groups provided a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for creating positive and caring peer relationships. Our approach is preventative; once the emotional support of the parent has been strengthened, a parent is better able to actively guide and nurture the family.

Would you like to make a difference in the lives of parents looking for help?

Currently, PHP is seeking volunteer counselors to offer support and act as a listening ear for parents in crisis.

Volunteers do not need prior counseling experience for this opportunity. Volunteers will be trained on crisis intervention and basic counseling techniques at our Watertown office. Once training is complete, calls may be taken at home or on a personal cell phone.

As a Parental Stress Line Counselor, you will learn valuable counseling skills, meet other like-minded volunteers, and be able to give back to your community.

PHP asks volunteers to commit to 50 four-hour shifts OR 20 overnight shifts totaling 200 hours for the year.
