Volunteer: Adult Literacy or ESOL TutorsLVMA volunteers help adults acquire the literacy and English language skills that empower them to realize their goals. By improving their basic skills through tutoring, adults are better able to meet life's challenges, be self-sufficient, provide for their families, help their children with homework, read a daily newspaper, enjoy more independence and gain self-confidence. Our volunteers attend a 2-hour orientation and an 18-hour training before being matched with a student. We ask volunteers to commit to tutoring this student for 2 hours per week for 9 to 12 months. During this time you come to understand the student's strengths and the particular challenges they face, so that you can shape the lessons to match their needs and goals. Our tutors and students also develop close-knit relationships. LVMont’s professional staff provides ongoing support and sponsors activities to help both the student and tutor succeed and achieve the student’s goals. For more information, contact our office at info@lvmonta.org or call 978-343-8184.
